Power Polishing & Gel Coat Restoration
Every boat’s needs are different based on the degree of UV damage, number of bumps with the dock, and water wear it has encountered. Your boat may need some or each of the steps we have listed here.
Here’s how we go about it.
Fiberglass Boats Gel Coat Restoration
Clean the Surface:
- We use a marine-grade cleaner to remove water scum, algae, and grime.
Sanding (If Necessary):
- For deeper scratches and UV damage, lightly sand the surface using a fine-grit sandpaper to smooth out the surface and remove any oxidation.
Apply Gel Coat Restoration:
- After sanding, we will apply a gel coat restoration product. This is to repair the UV damage and restore the color. We will match the gel coat to your boat's original color.
Buffing and Polishing:
- We use a dual-action polisher with a high-quality marine polish to buff out the surface. This will smooth the surface, bring back the shine, and remove any minor scratches. We use a proper marine-grade product that’s designed to restore the gel coat's luster.
Protective Coating:
- Next we will apply a protective wax or sealant to the boat's surface after polishing. This will create a barrier against further UV damage, saltwater, and grime build-up.
Aluminum Boat Power Polishing
Clean the Surface:
- We'll clean the boat with a marine-specific aluminum cleaner to remove water scum, algae, and dirt.
Remove Oxidation:
- Aluminum is more prone to oxidation, especially in UV-exposed areas. We'll use an aluminum polish product designed to remove oxidation. This will restore the metal’s shine.
Sanding and Buffing (Optional):
- If the aluminum is heavily scratched or oxidized, we'll lightly sand the surface with fine-grit sandpaper, then buff it with an aluminum polishing compound using a polishing machine.
Apply Protective Coating:
- After polishing, we'll apply a protective wax or clear coat designed for aluminum. This will help protect the boat from future UV damage, oxidation, and water exposure.
